April 6, 2020 – Gov. Henry McMaster has issued the “Home or Work” order.

McMaster issues Home or Work Order

The order was given April 6 and will go into effect at 5 p.m. April 7.

McMaster said the order means people should stay home unless they’re working, visiting family, recreating outdoors or they’re out getting necessary goods or services.

He also put limits on the number of people that could be in stores based on square footage.

“It is time, according to the data, according to the science, according to the facts,” he said. “We hope this order today will reduce the rise in infection.”

McMaster said there are just too many people out.

“Too many people… are on the roads. Too many people are on the waters. Too many people are in the stores. Too many people are not complying with our requests,” he said.

McMaster said a violation of his order is a misdemeanor and carries 30 days in jail and/or $100 fine for each day of violation.
