Myrtle Beach Announces Downtown Road Closures Through Late Summer

Drivers traveling through downtown Myrtle Beach should prepare for extended road closures beginning later this month as the city undertakes infrastructure adjustments aimed at improving traffic flow in the Arts & Innovation District.

Starting Tuesday, January 20, 2026, Oak Street will be closed between Ninth Avenue North and Mr. Joe White Avenue, with access restricted to the city services building only. An additional closure will affect Oak Street between 10th Avenue North and Ninth Avenue North. City officials indicate the closures are expected to remain in place through late summer.

During this period, the Oak Street entrance to the city services building parking area will be closed to both city staff and the public. Drivers are advised to use the driveway off 10th Avenue North to access the parking lot.

To accommodate visitors and downtown patrons, the city has identified several free public parking options. These include the paver parking lot located behind Grand Strand Brewing Company, parking areas at the Myrtle Beach Train Depot, and designated parking along Ninth Avenue North near First Methodist Church. Additional public parking is also available along Ninth Avenue North.

The city says the project is part of a broader effort to enhance traffic circulation and accessibility within the Arts & Innovation District, an area that continues to see increased activity from residents, businesses, and visitors.

Motorists are encouraged to plan ahead, allow extra travel time, and follow posted signage while navigating the downtown area over the coming months.
