Myrtle Beach Native Mike Rogers Releases Debut Solo Album After Decades on Nashville’s Biggest Stages
A Socastee High School graduate who got his start at The Carolina Opry, Rogers has spent two decades playing with some of Nashville’s best — and at 50, he’s finally putting out a record of his own.
There is a particular kind of patience built into a music career like Mike Rogers’. The Grand Strand produced him — born and raised in Myrtle Beach, the son of a South Carolina state fiddle champion — and for thirty-plus years he has been one of the quiet engines behind some of the most recognizable names in country, gospel, and bluegrass. Now, at 50, he is finally stepping out front on his own terms. Rogers released his self-titled debut solo album on May 29, 2026.
Rogers graduated from Socastee High School in 1992 and found his first professional footing close to home, performing at The Carolina Opry on the Grand Strand. That early stage work laid the foundation for a move to Nashville in 2002, where he built a reputation that would carry him considerably further than most musicians who make the same leap.
A Career Built on Trust and Versatility
Rogers is best known in Nashville for his drumming skills — a fact that surprises audiences who see him up front playing guitar, given that the guitar was actually his first instrument. That combination of talents made him a sought-after sideman across multiple genres. In Nashville he performed with country artists Kevin Denney, Craig Morgan, and Tate Stevens before making a pivotal shift toward bluegrass. By 2010, bluegrass legend Doyle Lawson recruited Rogers to join his group Quicksilver — a move that brought him out from behind the drums and to the front of the stage playing acoustic guitar and singing lead and background vocals.
Rogers is currently a member of Ricky Skaggs & Kentucky Thunder and the acclaimed gospel quartet Brothers of the Heart, alongside Jimmy Fortune, Bradley Walker, and Ben Isaacs. His DOVE Award nomination reflects a career that has moved with confidence across the lines that often separate country, bluegrass, and gospel — genres that on the South Carolina coast where he grew up were never so far apart to begin with.
The Debut Album: Classic Songs and New Originals
Released through Gaither Music Group, the self-titled Mike Rogers is available on CD and DVD as well as major streaming platforms. Rogers described the album as a mix of well-loved classic songs across bluegrass, gospel, and country alongside a handful of new original compositions. It is, by his own accounting, something he held off on for a long time — deliberately.
The album is available at music stores, Cracker Barrel locations, and on streaming services including Spotify and Apple Music.
A Grand Strand Success Story
Rogers’ trajectory — from the Grand Strand to The Carolina Opry to Nashville to the Grand Ole Opry stage with Ricky Skaggs — is the kind of story the area produces quietly and without much fanfare. The coast has always attracted musicians, and it has always sent them out into the world shaped by something particular about this place. Rogers carries that with him, and now, after everything, he has a record with his name on the front to show for it.
