Prestwick Country Club Named South Carolina’s Top Golf Course for 2025

Myrtle Beach has long been known as one of the premier golf destinations in the United States, with nearly 100 championship courses drawing players year-round. This year, one Grand Strand course earned statewide recognition as the best in South Carolina. Prestwick Country Club has been named the South Carolina Golf Course Owners Association’s 2025 South Carolina Golf Course of the Year, an honor that highlights excellence in course design, facility upkeep, community engagement, and contributions to the sport.

Prestwick Country Club was originally designed by Pete and P.B. Dye, renowned for shaping some of the most challenging and visually memorable courses in the country. The layout features dune-lined fairways, striking water elements, strategic pot bunkers, and the signature railroad-tie detailing often associated with Dye designs. With six sets of tees, the course offers an adaptable range of difficulty, welcoming golfers of various experience levels while still appealing to seasoned players seeking a more demanding round.

Although Prestwick first opened over three decades ago, the course has benefited from steady reinvestment, including improvements to greens, renovations to the clubhouse, and updates to dining areas and support facilities. These continued enhancements are a major factor in the course’s statewide distinction.

Prestwick’s recognition also reflects its long-standing role in the local community. The course has hosted high school teams at no cost for decades, supports area schools and charities, and in recent years became home to the Horry County Special Olympics golf team. The course is now being considered for national recognition through the National Golf Course Owners Association, with the results to be announced in January.

Whether or not national honors follow, Prestwick Country Club remains a standout destination for golfers across the Grand Strand and throughout the state.
