Hollywood Thriller Undertow Wraps Filming Across Grand Strand

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. — A Hollywood film crew has spent the past month shooting a psychological thriller called Undertow at locations stretching from Garden City to North Myrtle Beach, marking the latest major production to use the Grand Strand as its backdrop.

Director Adam Sigal, whose previous credits include Chariot and Nandor Fodor and the Talking Mongoose, confirmed that the film was originally slated to shoot in Ireland before the production relocated to Myrtle Beach. The South Carolina Film Commission said filmmakers were so visually drawn to the Grand Strand that they rewrote the script to set the story here.

Multiple Grand Strand Locations Used

Filming began at Village Surf Shoppe in Garden City in early March and moved to Pier 14 in Myrtle Beach, the North Myrtle Beach Aquatic and Fitness Center, the beach near Riptydz Oceanfront Grille and Rooftop Bar, the Myrtle Beach International Airport, local restaurants, and the police station.

The cast includes actress Tania Raymonde, recognized for her roles in the Amazon series Goliath, the ABC series Lost, and Malcolm in the Middle. Additional cast details have not been released. Producer Joel Shapiro’s credits include Gunner and River Runs Red.

State Incentives Drive Production Growth

South Carolina’s Motion Picture Incentive program offers qualifying productions a cash rebate of up to 25 percent on in-state crew wages and up to 30 percent on supplier purchases. A newer Local Filmmaker Incentive introduced in 2025 lowered the spending threshold to $250,000 for productions with a South Carolina-native producer.

More than 200 feature films, series, and TV movies have been shot in South Carolina. The state legislature is expected to debate Bill H.3832 in 2026, which would raise the annual rebate cap from ten million to thirty million dollars.

Shooting for Undertow was scheduled to wrap by late March 2026. No release date has been announced.
