North Myrtle Beach Announces Major Expansion to Aquatic and Fitness Center
North Myrtle Beach marked both history and future progress at the city’s Aquatic and Fitness Center on October 30th, where community members and leaders gathered to celebrate the facility’s 20th anniversary and unveil plans for a significant expansion.
The center, which opened two decades ago, has grown into an essential wellness hub for the community. With more than 5,200 members, it provides daily access to swimming, fitness training, recreation programs, and family activity spaces. City officials announced that continued demand and increased community use have motivated a new phase of development.
The planned expansion includes a new auxiliary gymnasium, a large group fitness studio, an expanded weight and cardio room, a dedicated stretching area, a new boys’ and girls’ locker room, renovation and enlargement of existing locker room facilities, an activity room, and a turf-covered outdoor play space. The additions are designed to create more space for youth programs, group health classes, and general recreation.
The project is currently in the design phase and is projected to move to the bidding stage in late spring or early summer. City leaders emphasized that the expansion reflects both the growth of the city and the vital role the Aquatic and Fitness Center plays in the daily lives of residents.
The anniversary celebration highlighted the center’s evolution from a long-discussed vision to a widely valued community resource, and city officials expressed optimism that the coming expansion will strengthen that role for years to come.
